“ . . . and fish is fish and that’s that!” So writes Leo Lionni in his classic book, Fish Is Fish. We will explore their watery world this month through crafts, activities, and a story. Registration required. At least one child in the 0-2 range AND at least one child in the 3-6 range.

In this class we'll discuss and practice the basics of being prepared for outdoor emergency situations. The class consist of lecture, group participation, and will have a strong hands-on component where participants will practice a variety of outdoor skills. Topics discussed will include: necessities of survival, shelter, fire, water, food, navigation, and many others. This class will be held outdoors in a natural setting and will involve moderate activity.

Join MDC naturalists and area birders as we discover the avian life that calls Runge home. These short birding walks are for all experience levels. We will gather near the front doors of the nature center. Binoculars and field guides will be provided for those that need them. Registration preferred. Ages 8+

An atlatl is a hunting tool created more than 20,000 years ago. It was often used to hunt megafauna such as wooly mammoth. Join us as we explore the history of the atlatl and how it is used today. Create you very own atlatl to take home, learn the technique for using it, and give it a try at Runge. Registration required. Ages 13-17

Come learn the basics of watercolor while painting a beautiful Missouri Wildflower! No experience necessary. You will be guided through this unique way of painting, and you will take your new art piece home with you. Registration required. Ages 14+

The animals are hungry! Watch as a Runge naturalist feeds the snakes, amphibians, and turtles. Be sure to include your email address in your registration. Presenter will email the program link to participants both the day before and day of the program. Registration required. All ages

You are invited to our annual stream team clean-up at Runge on our section of Wears Creek. Let’s wade in the water, pick up trash, and explore the life that calls our creek home. Don’t forget to wear old clothes and shoes to get wet and muddy. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Registration required. Ages 7-12

Archery is a fun, lifetime sport everyone can enjoy. Learn the basics of archery and how to shoot safely, then practice your newly learned skills under the supervision of Runge staff. Dress for the weather in closed-toe shoes. All equipment is provided. No registration required. Ages 7+

Note: Runge's outdoor range may not be accessible to participants who use a wheelchair or crutches. Please check for availability of an all-terrain wheelchair by contacting the program instructor at least two weeks in advance of the program date. No registration required. Ages 7+
