Conservation Adults

Join us at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area for Camp Hellbender-no newts allowed! This summer camp is designed to let adults feel like a kid again and have some fun in the outdoors while exploring some of the best conservation areas in the region that MDC has to offer! At Columbia Bottom CA, we will start off our morning with some fishing on the big river, followed by a Bumblebee Survey in our iconic Sunflower field. Then, we’ll cool off indoors in the afternoon with lunch in the classroom and then an Owl Pellet Dissection activity.

Learn to Fish

Have you ever wanted to learn how to properly chase catfish in your local body of water? We have the class for you! This is a single class that is made to teach you everything you will need to know. The class will begin as any other, only catch is, you will already be fishing! Fishing rods will be set up in wait as we teach and talk about catfish. We will display the different types of catfish, the different types of rods, reels, and gear used to catch catfish, and also teach you what kind of baits to use and where!

Caves

Come on over to Rockwoods Reservation for afternoon of Spelunking! We will begin this program in the classroom at the Rockwoods Education Center, where we will learn more about caves in Missouri, what kind of critters we might find in them, and why our cave ecosystems are so special! After about 45 minutes in the classroom, we will gear up in our helmets and knee pads and head to Bathtub Cave to do some exploring.

**Note: You will have to crawl into the entrance and crawl in the cave. The very beginning of this cave is roughly 1 foot tall.

Join us at Tower Grove Park for another session of Camp Hellbender-no newts allowed! This summer camp is designed to let adults feel like a kid again and have some fun in the outdoors while exploring some of the best conservation areas and green spaces that the St. Louis region has to offer! At Tower Grove Park, we’ll learn tree ID and put our new skills to the test on a tree ID geocaching adventure! After lunch we’ll learn about native plants and insects and do a flower pounding craft. Please bring a water bottle and a lunch. Refrigeration will be available if needed.

Join us at Rockwoods Reservation for Camp Hellbender-no newts allowed! This summer camp is designed to let adults feel like a kid again and have some fun in the outdoors while exploring some of the best conservation areas in the region that MDC has to offer! At Rockwoods Reservation, test your skills by learning archery. Learn to identify animal signs, tracks, and scat and make your own cool treat inspired by nature. Cool off during the Stream Exploration, using nets to search for macroinvertebrates and amphibians. Please bring your own water bottle and lunch.

Join us at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center for Camp Hellbender-no newts allowed! This summer camp is designed to let adults feel like a kid again and have some fun in the outdoors while exploring some of the best conservation areas in the region that MDC has to offer! Join Powder Valley staff for a day of cooking and climbing. Enjoy an exciting excursion in the trees as you practice tree climbing. Practice your outdoor cooking skills by preparing your own foil packet lunch and making delicious deserts with a Dutch oven.

Conservation Kids

Join us for a morning of nature fun learning all about animal tracks. We will strengthen your preschooler’s connection to nature by playing a game, reading a book, and making a craft.

Meet at the Visitor Center. Please register everyone attending.

Siblings are welcome, but please note this class is designed for ages 2–6. Register the older siblings as well.

Nature Art

Join George and Jan Serigos as they perform in their nature-related band, Wild Heart. Thier lighthearted music is sure to be a joy to all ages! If you have not had the chance to hear their presentation, you are in for a treat!

Music will be outdoors if weather permits. The nature center doors will open at 6 pm to give you an opportunity to explore the exhibits.
