Date: Tuesday, August 13, 2019 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Location: August A Busch Shooting Range

This is an introduction course on how to become a successful hunter using a bow and arrow. We will cover equipment, safety, clothing, tree stand placement, shot placement, and more. Feel free to bring your personal archery equipment along. This will allow you a chance to get it set up and a little range time.

New and potential hunters are often overwhelmed by all the equipment one seems to need to undertake hunting. Truth is, it’s simple to get started. Join our team of experienced hunters to learn about the different hunting strategies and the gear you will need for each one.

This clinic will introduce you to the sport of duck hunting. We will cover habitat, biology, migration patterns, clothing, firearms, blinds, safety and more. Then we will work on some calling techniques.

Date: Saturday, August 24, 2019 - 8:30am to 11:30am


Join us to learn the most effective methods for dove hunting. We will discuss the biology of the bird and then teach you how to wing shoot using the Effective Wing Shooting for the Hunter techniques. We will discuss using decoys and how to use concealment to your benefit.

Bring your shotgun, 4 boxes of #7 steel shot, and warm-up for dove season. We’ll create typical hunting scenarios to practice your wingshooting for the September 1st opener.

Hunting doves is a great way to spend time in nature. Actually bagging a few doves is the challenging part. This 3-evening clinic is designed to work through some of the common barriers to dove hunting success. There will be a fair amount of shooting in this workshop so feel free to bring your own shotgun or use ours.

Date: Friday, August 30, 2019 - 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Location: Apple Creek Conservation Area

Learn what you need to know before you head out to the field to hunt doves. Sharpen your shooting skills before you hunt to increase your success. An adult guardian is required to attend with the youth. More information will be sent upon acceptance of registration. Minimum class size is 6. Student will be notified on the 26th if the class does not meet minimum requirement.

What do I need to do if I want to hunt deer in Missouri? If I harvest a deer what do I do next? These questions and more will be answered in this informative program on deer hunting. During this clinic we will cover the following topics: Biology of white-tail deer, what to do before the hunt, what to do during the hunt, and what to do after the hunt. Ages 6 and up, participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Women’s Managed Deer Hunt Shaw Nature Reserve

The Missouri Department of Conservation is conduction a managed deer hunt for women who have never harvested a deer. The hunt will take place within Shaw Nature Reserve, Franklin County.
The actual hunt is limited to 8 women who will apply for the hunt in July and are successfully drown for the hunt. Participants will stay overnight Saturday in cabins and hunt Sunday. Each hunter will be provided a mentor/guide to help them during their hunt. Keep in mind that moderate to high physical exertion is required for the hunt as participants could be hiking long distances.

Adults new to the sport of deer hunting will have a chance to see what all the excitement is about when the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) offers a mentored muzzleloader deer hunt for those age 18 and over. The hunt takes place at Forest 44 Conservation Area in High Ridge. The only requirement for participants is that they are new to deer hunting and have not yet harvested a deer. Both traditional side lock and modern inline muzzleloader firearms are permitted. Five hunters total will be chosen for the hunt by random drawing. Participating in the hunt is free of charge.
