Turkey hunting is a great way to spend time with family and friends while enjoying nature in spring. This workshop is designed to teach participants how to more successfully hunt the wild turkey. We’ll discuss turkey biology, hunting equipment, regulations and strategies that will make you a more confident turkey hunter.

(all ages, 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult) Spring turkey hunting offers some of the most challenging, exciting, and rewarding hunts in Missouri! Join us to sharpen your skills, learn new techniques, or gain confidence so you can harvest a big spring gobbler. We will discuss turkey biology, habitat, hunting strategies, firearms, ammunition, and much more!

Missouri Turkey Calls and the Artists Behind Them. Whether collecting them or using them on a hunt, turkey calls are both utilitarian and art. Explore unique designs from the Missouri Ozarks as MDC Regional Supervisor Brian Flowers shares an exciting look at Missouri turkey calls and the artists behind them. Whether past or present we'll examine the calls, hunters, and pioneers who've made Missouri turkey calls some of the most sought after artwork in the nation.

This program gives individuals and families an opportunity to learn, experience, and explore the skills necessary to hunt wild turkey. Topics include rules and regulations, hunting techniques, safety, calls and calling, and basic shotgun and ammunition information.

Smoke & Fire: history and legend of the long rifle on the American frontier, 1754 - 1850. No other single object in the American experience has as much history, legend or lore associated with it. The long rifle is a truly American invention and in the forests and prairies of the expanding frontier it made its mark. Whether carried by Daniel Boone into the wilds of Kentucky, Lewis & Clark on the Corps of Discover or with William Becknell down the Santa Fe trail, these rifles shaped our country. Join MDC Regional Supervisor Brian Flowers as we explore the history and contemporary use of the long rifle.

Introduction to Animal Hide Tanning
April 27 • Saturday • 12-3 p.m.
(Ages 11 and up)
Reservations begin April 13
In this course you will learn how to flesh, board and tan your hide, as well as go over different forms of tanning. Most of this class will be outside so dress for the weather.

Location: Mark Twain Lake - M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor

This partnership event with the Corps of Engineers, MDC, and NWTF is for adults who have never harvested a turkey. Participants must provide their own camouflage clothing. 2019 spring turkey permits are required. An Apprentice tag is required for those not Hunter Education Certified. Firearms are available upon request. Mentors/callers will be provided. Participants must attend pre-hunt clinic on May 3rd. If participants happen to harvest a bird before this event they will become ineligible. A waiting list will be filled after the first ten applicants. Join us to learn the most effective methods for dove hunting. We will discuss the biology of the bird and then teach you how to wing shoot using the Effective Wing Shooting for the Hunter techniques. We will discuss using decoys and how to use concealment to your benefit.
