Meetings/Special Use

The Cape Girardeau Nature Center staff and volunteers are excited to show off some their art from this year! Look for a variety of photographs, paintings, bark baskets, carved bowls and spoons. Many of these items were practice for upcoming classes and programs.

Nature Rx

Leave your phone at home and take this chance to relax and reconnect with nature. Time in nature is healing, an opportunity to slow down and focus.

Class may take place outdoors if weather permits. Otherwise, we'll practice indoors with suggestions to further your nature time after class. This program is beginner-friendly and mats are provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own mat and other props. Please wear comfortable clothing and we encourage you to bring your own water bottle.

Nature Art

Come carve your own duck decoy out of cork. Your decoy may be used for waterfowl hunting or kept as a unique piece of art. All materials and tools will be provided. This is an all-day workshop. We will spend the morning carving, have a lunch break on your own, then spend the afternoon painting and finishing our ducks.

Please be sure to wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty or getting paint on. This class may not be ideal for individuals with asthma or breathing difficulties. Participants younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Nature Art

This class is a series of 12 programs that meets once each month, all year long. You will learn simple, but beautiful, embroidery techniques as we explore some iconic, as well as secretive wildflowers in Missouri. These flowers will range from our Ozark mountain glades to our lowland swamps. Attending each class will acquaint you with each flower’s habitat needs, bloom period, and light requirements. In addition, you will learn more about who pollinates the plant and who might depend on the plant for food.

Conservation Families

When plants and animals die, they sure don’t go to waste! A team of decomposers steps up and helps recycle all the nutrients. Meet nature’s clean-up crew and find out just how hard they work as we investigate rotten logs and leaf litter.
