Blue River Glades

Natural Features Description:

Ancient chinkapin oaks grow along scenic limestone outcrops with a showy display of wildflowers from April through September. A variety of animals live here including a number of songbirds such as indigo bunting, great-crested flycatcher, yellow-billed cuckoo and the summer tanager. Turkey, deer and bobcat all utilize this area and the surrounding woods. Ongoing restoration efforts including prescribed fires and cutting and treating the invasive, exotic bush honeysuckle.

From the intersection of Interstates 435 and 70 take Interstate 435 south and exit at Gregory Boulevard. Proceed west on Gregory Boulevard for 1.2 miles then turn left onto Oldham Road. Continue for 0.1 mile. Then turn right on Blue River Road and continue for 1.2 miles. There is a small parking lot pull off on the left (east) side of the road. The trailhead is on the left side of the road. A half-mile hiking trail leads visitors through the glades and adjacent woodlands. The trail and the glades should be avoided during wet weather to prevent negative impacts.
