Amphibians and Reptiles

Some think they’re cool, some think they’re not! Many think they’re strange but what many might not know… is that we actually have a lot in common with these cool animals! They slither and they slink but you would too if you didn’t have any arms and legs! Join us from the comfort of your own home to learn and explore the realm of the great and wonderful serpent!

Hunter Education Skills Session

To register for this class, you must be a MINIMUM of ELEVEN YEARS OF AGE. The name of the registrant must be the name of the STUDENT, not the parent's name. Prior to the date of the class, you must have completed the chapter review questions in the student Hunter Education manual (free of charge from MDC) or completed the online knowledge program and bring proof of completion to the class. Parents are invited to attend, but this is not mandatory. If you have any questions, please email the instructor at lanehedges@aol.com or call at (816) 665-1002.

Wild Edibles

Let’s gather at the 24 Highway shelter house to forage for some early summer wild edible plants. Bring your cameras, smart phones, ID books and water bottle. (There are no facilities available at this site)

Babes in the Woods

Join a Naturalist at the W. Robert Aylward EDUCATION POND to explore the water’s edge with your babe. Shoes may get muddy as we use nets to catch small pond animals. Dress appropriately and/or bring extra clothes, shoes, towel.

Nature Rx

Enrich your life by nature immersion to reduce stress, improve sleep and many more possible health benefits! Enjoy learning about pollinators and a unique, hands-on approach to science as we chill out some bumblebees and sweep up some butterflies to record these cool species of insects! Nature Rx topics to look forward to this year include: archery, atl atl, kayaking, craft and learn or work and learn style programs and more!

Conservation Families

Try out your archery skills with an easy, instructor-led shooting session. Discover the therapeutic power of kayaking as you paddle around our tranquil pond. Please wear closed-toe shoes. (ages 5-7 use smaller bows and ride in kayak with an adult)

Babes in the Woods

Let’s take your little one to a creek! We will take a short hike to Burr Oak Creek to splash and experience this watery world. You and your babe will get wet. You must have on closed-toe shoes for safety. Umbrella strollers not recommended. Short walk from parking lot. Bring a change of clothes for your babe and towel.

Citizen Science

MEET AT FOUR RIVERS CONSERVATION AREA for an evening of outdoor fun with an overnight camping option. Enjoy archery, fishing, (dinner break), a slide show on dark skies and a tour of the stars with telescopes from (TBD- Astronomical Society).

Nature Rx

Do you like to draw, crochet, or journal? Do you like being outdoors? Join us as we combine the two and enjoy creating art in nature. Please bring your favorite art supplies, journals, and water bottle.
